MySQL is the world's most widely deployed open-source relational database management system (RDBMS). It stores data in tables and is queried with SQL — Structured Query Language.

You'll find MySQL behind: • websites and content systems (WordPress, Drupal), • online shops and booking systems, • apps from companies like Facebook, Uber, Netflix, and Airbnb.

MySQL is owned by Oracle; MariaDB is a community fork that's compatible with it. The labs in this course run on MariaDB, and everything you learn works the same in MySQL.
