Introduction to JavaScript

Variables, the DOM, and responding to events.

What is JavaScript?

Slide 1 / 5

JavaScript is the programming language of the web. HTML gives a page its structure, CSS its look, and JavaScript its behavior: what happens when you click, type, scroll, or wait.

It runs directly in every browser — nothing to install — and also on servers (Node.js), in mobile apps, and in desktop apps.

Despite the name, JavaScript is unrelated to Java; the name was a 1990s marketing choice.
